Introduction: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex multisystem autoimmune disease. The purpose of the study was to estimate the prevalence of polymorphism in C3 rs7951 gene in the control group (healthy people) and in the study group (people suffering from the SLE).
Materials and methods: Study has been subjected to 99 people suffering from the SLE, between 20-70 years old. Biological material used in the studies was DNA. The method of salting out was used to obtain the DNA, amplificated with PCR method and underwent enzymatic hydrolysis with usage of endonuclease HindIII.
Results: In comparison the study group to the control one the prevalence of risk allele T in gene C3 did not appear to be higher.
Conclusions: The study revealed that polymorphism of C3 gene (rs7951) does not contribute to prevalence of SLE.
