Continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) therapy and the quality of life in patients with diabetes mellitus
Keywords:
insulin therapy, continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion, insulin pump, the quality of lifeAbstract
On the basis of the literature and the author’s own experiences, the advantages and drawbacks of insulin therapy by continuous subcutaneous infusion method using a personal insulin pump have been discussed. In order to achieve good effects of such treatment, the patient and/or his/her guardians must be highly motivated to take utmost care when following the treatment programme. Very good education and the possibility of keeping in touch (also via the telephone and electronic means) with the therapeutic and educational team is of crucial importance.
