Spa-treatment financed by the National Health Fund presents a number of specific problems. The aim of the paper was to present the patients’ estimation of the spa-treatment made by people treated in the Podkarpackie Region health spas. Investigation was carried out by means of an inquiry questioning, between other things, the patient’s profile, qualification procedures for the treatment of conditions being the basis for the patient’s referral for spa-treatment, procedures prescribed, the doctors’ and nurses’ care, accommodation conditions and the patients’ subjective assessment of the treatment and its results. The paper shows that the most frequent course of referral was spondylarthrosis, and over half of the respondents got the referrals at their own request. The majority of patients were women and old-age and disability pensioners with their income up to 1500 PLN per month. Over one third of respondents waited for their place in a spa for 8 to 18 months. Half of the respondents claim that the waiting time should be shorter. The patients give the highest credits to the professionalism of the medical staff.
