INTRODUCTION Lateralization is one of the crucial factors of the man’s normal psychophysical development. It results from cerebral specialisation in the specific man’s activities control process. Its direction and extent are essential for effective operation in environment. Lateralization disorders can take form of ‘motor clumsiness, impaired visual and physical co-ordination, spatial orientation and body-scheme orientation disorders. The cognitive aim of this study is to identify the lateralization process, that is the changes in body lateralization, which take place during the school year in younger school age children.
MATERIAL AND METHODS The research was carried out on girls and boys from primary schools in Wroclaw. The Wroclaw Direction and Extent of Asymmetry Test was used during the research. Carried out study takes on the character of pilot research, and its results have to be a contribution to didactic programmes, which have to stimulate the children’ psychophysical development.
RESULTS The research shows that there are changes in body lateralization in girls and boys during six months. These changes are observed in the direction adwell as in the extent of the asymmetry. No differences between lateralization in girls and boys have been observed.
CONCLUSSION Research results show that lateralization can be additionally stimulated by aimed didactic process. This fact can significantly improve the child’s psychophysical development, and the same it can affect its health and effective operation in the environment.
