Introduction: It seems that a vegan diet leads to an improvement in the lipid profile of blood plasma. Still the influence of other subtypes of vegetarianism on lipid status remains undefined. Therefore, the aim of the research It was an assessment of the influence of a monthly lacto-ovo-vegetarian diet on the change of economic parameters lipid.
Material and methods: The study included 21 volunteers (16 women and 5 men) aged 22 to 26 years, eating traditionally. All subjects were assessed twice for nutrition and parameters of lipid metabolism (triglycerides, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol) before and after a month on a lacto-ovo-vegetarian diet
Results: There were no significant changes in body weight and BMI, as well as changes in consumption energy and cholesterol. On the other hand, a change in the proportion of consumption of individual macroingredients. Consumption of proteins and fats (including monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids) saturated but not saturated) decreased significantly, while consumption increased carbohydrates. The monthly use of a vegetarian diet led to statistically significant amounts increase in triglycerides. However, the short-term diet did not affect cholesterol levels total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol (expressed both in absolute terms and and relative). Positive correlations were found between changes in triglyceride concentrations and changes in the amount of energy consumption expressed as% RDA (r = 0.486, p = 0.025) and carbohydrates (r = 0.433, p = 0.05). On the other hand, a high, negative correlation was noted between the change in the HDL percentage and the change in energy consumption expressed as% RDA (r = -— 0.695. p = 0.0005) and the change in supply saturated fatty acids (r = —0.700, p = 0.0004).
Conclusions: A short-term implementation of a lacto-ovo-vegetarian diet leads to a change in proportions consumption of macronutrients, without having a positive effect on the state of the lipid metabolism dowa.
