Abstract

Contemporary positive changes in the morbidity and prognosis in oncology following more widespread and early introduced diagnostics result in the increase in detection rate and improvement of treatment strategies, including rehabilitation, which is particularly conspicuous in Western countries. However, according to recent prognoses, due to the process of population aging and the influence of numerous carcinogens, the number of neoplasms will double. This will entail the significant increase in the number of patients requiring early and often continuous rehabilitation. Among these, the patients with bone tumors and bone metastases are of particular interest. Based on the literature and own experience the autors presents modern diagnostic and treatment modalities in patients with primary and metastatic bone tumors with particular regard to widely accepted rehabilitation. It is aimed at amelioration of pain, improvement of physical fitness, mobility, increase of exertion tolerance and ability of self-service. Complex and appropriately adjusted rehabilitation should be an indispensable part of multidisciplinary treatment of oncological patients independently of the stage of disease advancement.
