From the Department of Clinical Education of the Cracow Medical Academy to the Medical Department of the University of Rzeszow
Abstract
In the 70s a regular medical studies were established in Rzeszow, at first for IV grade students of the Cracow Medical Academy, and successively for students of V and VI grades. At that time a number of professors from other academic centers came to Rzeszow. After 1989, as a result of decision made by Senate of the Cracow Medical Academy, Rzeszow has lost a chance to continue medical education and other kinds of studies related to medicine. Members of faculty were transferred to the Institute of Physical and Health Education of former WSP (Higher Pedagogical College). The authorities of the college made a significant efforts in order to establish an independent faculty of medicine within its structure. In 2005 Minister of National Education decided to give permission for founding the Faculty of Health Sciences at existing already University of Rzeszow which successively, by decision of the Senate, was renamed as the Medical Faculty. Permanent and successful and cooperation with the local hospitals shows the great promise that in a near future an university hospital will be established in Rzeszow.
