Difficulties in rehabilitation after the fracture of the neck of femur in patients with neurological illnesses – description of cases

Posture stability deteriorating with age is one of the chief causes of falls of elderly people and, what is connected the cause of fractures, including the fracture of the neck of femur. The patients with neurological illnesses constitute a particular group. Predominant symptoms such as paresis or hemiplegia, bathyaesthesia disorders, body schema disorders, involuntary movements and hypokinesis make the rehabilitation process difficult. From 2003 to 2004 1389 patients were rehabilitated in the Rehabilitation Ward, including 764 after cerebral stroke. This work describes the course of rehabilitation of two patients (the patient with hemiplegia after cerebral stroke and the patient with Parkinson’s disease). The rehabilitation process of the patients with complicated hemiplegia after the fracture of the neck of femur was particularly difficult. Thanks to intensive and constant rehabilitation it brought in measurable results in the form of improvement of the functional condition as well as regeneration of the locomotion function.
