Abstract

Acute pancreatitis (AP) belongs to the most dangerous illnesses of abdominal cavity. This is an inflammatory process going on in the glandular parenchyma which causes complications in form of pancreatic necrosis, abscesses and multiorgan insufficiency. Prevalence of AP is increasing and growing incidence of the disease is probably connected with increased consumption of alcohol and increased occurrence of cholelithiasis. One of complications caused by AP is encephalopathy which develops because of various ćfausal mechanisms, often overlapping. At present there is not an univocal causal treatment of pancreatic encephalopathy, however an effective procedure includes a correct diagnostic-treatment proceeding aimed at restoration of homeostasis which was disturbed in the course of AP.
