The Selected problems in the treatment of patients with thigh-bone fracture

Reduced mechanical strength of the bones in older people caused by osteoporosis and coexisting diseases pose serious economic and social problems in the treatment of patients with thigh-bone fractures. Consequently, the treatment and rehabilitation of patients are often unsatisfactory and do not bring the intended results.
The aim of the study is to evaluate selected problems related to the treatment of patients with thighbone fractures.
The evaluation included 44 patients, considering their sex, age, type of thighbone fracture as well as the seasonal character of fractures and the patients´ stay in a hospital ward.
The analysis shows that thigh-bone fractures are more common in women than men. Most injuries were to the nearer head of the thigh-bone (neck fracture) and were found mainly in older people over the age of 70. The seasonal character of fractures was also confirmed – fractures occurred mainly in the winter. Out of all the patients hospitalized in a ward, 9% were sent to health centers for further treatment.
