Abstract

Dysfunction of the shoulder takes place at about 70% of patients after stroke hampering a rehabilitation process.

Aim of work: evaluation of causes of dysfunction of a shoulder joint in patients with hemiparesis after stroke.

Material and method: research was carried out in a group of 60 patients after stroke with dysfunction of a shoulder joint treated at the rehabilitation department. Ultrasonographic examination was performed of structures of both shoulder joints, kinetic efficiency of the upper extremity was evaluated by Brunnström test and a degree of muscular tone in Ashworth scale.

Results: Damage of the joint structures more often occurred in patients in first months since getting sick and decreased muscle tone and functional efficiency.
