20 years of experience in applying local criotherapy in patients undergoing rehabilitation at the ward

Local and general criotherapy has been applied in Poland for over twenty years. At the beginning of the 80 ties in Goczatkowice Zdréj the first attempts to construct the criochamber were undertaken. Back then the local criotherapy with the use of nitrogen fumes was applied. Since then the interest in local and general criotherapy has been steadily growing. Our own experiences have been conducted since 1987. Due to character of the ward in our circumstances we apply local criotherapy mainly in patients diagnosed with central nerves system disorders, in ‘smaller range in case of patients with rheumatoid diseases. Patients with central nerves system disorders ‘who undergo criotherapy treatment are diagnosed with: stroke, skull — brain injuries, sclerosis multiplex, cerebral palsy and acute neuropathy. Those treatments are covered by National Health System between 1998 and 2009 there has been significant increase of the local and general criotherapy application and widening of the indications spectrum. The access to local and general criotherapy treatment has been steadily improving and the spectrum of indications has been widened The indications for local crioteraphy include also the patients diagnosed with central nervous system disorders, brain — skull injuries, spinal cord injuries, sclerosis multiplex, cerebral palsy and acute neuropathy.
