Abstract

Cognition impairment it is every kind of dementia that appears after stroke. It ranges approximately 30% survivors. Dementia makes barriers among family, social and job integration of patient. The aim of this research was to evaluate dementia impact on functional outcome in treated stroke survi-vors. On study showed 49 patients, 17 (35%) of them were diagnosed with dementia (Mini-Mental State Examination, ICD10). To evaluate the rehabilitation effects were used: Barthel Index for independence in activity of daily life, Motor Function Assessment for upper limb, sitting, standing and walking estimation, and walking test (10 m) to rate the velocity. Results: The functional outcome at the admission and at discharge as well in non-dementia group was better then in other group but wasn't statistically significant. Conclusions: Mild dementia doesn't have negative impact on rehabilitation outcome in older stroke survivors. It is indicated to continue such researches on numerous groups of patients to find the correla-tion between motor function and dementia severity.
