Introduction. Degenerative disease of a knee joint is a chronic and non-inflammatory illness of the joints with multifactorial etiology, which has periods of exacerbations and remissions. It consists in a premature degeneration and wear of the tissues that constitute the joint.
Target. The target of the paper is to analyse the effects of applied rehabilitation with regard to pa-tients who were treated non-invasively and those who undergone plastic endoprothesis treatment of the knee joints. Analysis of the influence of the chosen factors such as: sex, age, and body weight on the inci-dence of gonarthrosis occurrence. Examination of the relationship between the body weight indicated by the BMI index and effects of rehabilitation in case of the degenerative disease of knee joints.
Material and method. The examination included 60 persons (46 women and 14 men), who were divided into patients treated non-invasively (31 persons) and patients who were placed in hospital after the knee joint alloplastic treatment (29 persons), who in the period between October 2006 and March 2007 had been treated in the Orthopaedic Ward for Adults and undergone rehabilitation in the Physiotherapy Laboratory of the Regional Hospital No.2 in Rzeszow. In order to work out the results the STATISTICA 6.0PL program was used The method of diagnostic survey was exploited with a questionnaire technique of own invention. In order to assess the variability with regard to subjective feeling of pain a ten-degree visual-analogue VAS scale was used In order to examine the frequency of excess weight or obesity occurrence within the examined group a conversion factor called BMI was used.
Results and conclusions. From the examination conducted one can gather that the application of com-prehensive rehabilitation treatment in the degenerative disease of knee joints brings statistically significant positive effects mainly in the form of pain problem decrease both at patients treated non-inva-sively and in the case of people who undergone plastic endoprothesis treatment of knee joint.
