The subject of the study is the treatment of facial skeleton injuries among children and teenagers during 1993–2002 at the Maxillo-Facial Surgery Department of Provincial Specialistic Hospital in Rzeszów. The analysis is based on hospital department records such as case records, ambulatory treatment cards, surgical intervention books, physician-on-duty reports. During the above mentioned time, 1550 patients were treated because of facial skeleton fractures, including 115 children (85 boys and 30 girls). 56 children in the age of 6–10 were hospitalized, i.e. 48,7% of young patients. Road accidents were the most common injury cause in 35 cases (30,4%). 24 children (20,9%) reported the falling from hights as the cause of injury. Other injury causes were stumblings and sport injuries. The injury in the result of beating was rare in the group of children and teenagers.75,7 % of children were treated due to mandible fractures and injuries of facial lower part. As far as mandible is concerned, the fractures of mandible body and angle were the most often. 47 patients (40,10%) had fractures in the middle part of facial skeleton. 260 Among 73 children, facial skeleton injuries were accompanied with brain concussion, injuries of face integument and oral cavity integument, lower and upper limb fractures and rib fractures. The orthopedic-pharmacological means of fracture fixation were applied in majority of children ( 64,4%), surgical fixation of fracture was applied among 26 children (22,6%).
