Sense of coherence among nursing and obstetrics faculty students

Abstract

In this paper the results concerning determine level of the sense of coherence and its components, the sense of understanding, resourcefulness and the feeling of sense among nursing and obstetrics faculty students have been presented. Besides, attempt of establishment between sense of coherence and independent variables like: age, place of residency, distance of university from place of residency and possibilities of own career development has been undertaken. The researches were carried out in 663 students undergraduate of Nursing and Obstetrics faculty, using diagnostic sound method with adaptation of Life Orientation SOC-29 Questionnaire and a questionnaire drawn up by the author. Selection of persons into group was purposeful and participation in the study was voluntary and anonymous. Based on statistical analysis of empiric researches was found, that examined students characterize higher level of the sense of coherence than representatives of other populations examined in the country. It was found difference in the level of the sense of coherence between students of both faculties. Students of nursing faculty are characterized by higher level of the sense of coherence than students of obstetrics faculty. Moreover, in the course of carried out researches, dependence between age and the sense of coherence and its components was indicated. The youngest persons have higher sense of co- 147 herence then examined persons from other age groups. In addition, statistically significant dependence between the sense of coherence and professional development resulting from higher education was indicated. The researches of correlation between the sense of coherence and occupational possibilities are innovatory enough and should be carried out on other comparable populations of students.
