The sense of coherence and the motives for choosing the nursing and obstetrics occupation

The main aim of the undertaken research was to present the correlation between the sense of coherence with its three components, i.e. the sense of understanding, resourcefulness and the feeling of sense, and factors influencing on the nursing and obstetrics occupation choice. The research was carried out with the use of the Life Orientation SOC-29 Questionnaire and a questionnaire drawn up by the author. The questionnaires were completed by 663 undergraduate students of the Nursing and Obstetrics faculty. The analysis of external factors influencing on the choice of educational direction indicated in the aspect of global sense of coherence and its components (understanding, resourcefulness and the feeling of sense) statistically significant dependence in eight out of eleven factors with p= 0,000, and in the field of internal factors in four of five factors (p=0,000).
