Cities and Routes in Hellenistic Northern Anatolia
Keywords:
urbanization, connectivity, kingdom of Bithynia, kingdom of Pontic CappadociaAbstract
This paper explores the impact of the rise of the kingdoms of Bithynia and Pontic Cappadocia on the route network of northern Anatolia. Although evidence about roads themselves is scarce at best, cities provide precious indications of developing route networks. Studies of urbanization offer insights into connectivity in the region, complementing knowledge of domestic policies in the kingdoms of Bithynia and Pontic Cappadocia.
