Abstrakt

Slugs, which are perceived these days in a purely negative way, had some applications in former times, which might surprise people today. One of them was the use of these organisms for medical purposes. This paper aims to review the role of slugs in ethnomedicine. These animals were used to remove warts, in the treatment of other skin problems, in the therapy of injuries, broken bones, respiratory system ailments, gastrointestinal disorders, healing and strengthening the organism and building up its
resistance to infections. We recorded the use of slugs in ethnomedicine in the following countries: Italy, Great Britain, France, Portugal, Austria, Germany, Nepal, Brazil, Canada, Japan and Switzerland.
