Abstract

The aim of the study was to determine trends in the development of farm animal populations included in the genetic resources conservation programme in Poland with regard to the sources of funding. It was found that the higher EU funding (Rural Development Plan 2007-2013 – agri-environmental programme) for 4 native animal species of horses, cattle, sheep and pigs is beneficial for breeders and will stimulate a large increase in the populations in the years to come. The population of other animal species (poultry, fur animals, bees) that receive little funding from the national budget, will remain at a low level guaranteeing survival of the breeds.
