In 2015, in order to promote the pro-environmental model of natural resources management, the name of the journal Zeszyty Naukowe Południowo-Wschodniego Oddziału Polskiego Towarzystwa Inżynierii Ekologicznej z siedzibą w Rzeszowie i Polskiego Towarzystwa Gleboznawczego Oddział w Rzeszowie was changed to Polish Journal for Sustainable Development (Polish Journal. Sust. Development, ISSN 2450-3746, DOI: 10.15584/pjsd.). Specialist team for the evaluation of scientific journals for the purposes of future parametric evaluation and preparation of a list of selected scientific journals of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education – taking into account the request of the editor of the Polish Journal for Sustainable Development (Letter of the Department of Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of 9.06.2016; sign: DN. SJN.5040.218.2016 - addressed to Prof. Joanna Kostecka) – expressed a positive opinion on the change of the journal's name, also upholding the previous decision on the points awarded to the journal.

The history of the establishment and operation of the journal under its current name is reported in the article Kasprzak K., Kostecka J.:1 "Polish Journal for Sustainable Development" – 20 years of promoting sustainable development. Vol. 22(2)/ 2018. pp. 9-18.
Its importance in disseminating the concept of sustainable development was emphasized. Twenty years of publishing a scientific journal is such a long time that some summaries and reflections are already possible. The information contained in the article covers the period of over 20 years of publishing the journal in the years 1997-2018. The aim of the study was not only to show the effort and success of all authors, editors, scientific councils and publishing houses, but also to use the opportunity to leave in the memory of subsequent readers the concept of sustainable development, i.e. a concept that still gives a chance to build the well-being of Homo sapiens in the reality of the 21st century.
