Appearing of the praying mantis (Mantis religiosa L.) in Rzeszów and surroundings

Abstract

All over the world about 2 300 species of praying mantis were described mainly in the tropical and subtropical climate. In Central Europe is appearing only one species – Mantis religiosa L. In Poland it is protected, endangered insect with becoming extinct. It is appearing on only few sites, mainly in the south-eastern part of our country. In the last years it is being observed also on new sites, also in surroundings of Rzeszów city. In order to determine appearing of local populations and the migration paths it is necessary to establish the program of its monitoring. It can be drawn by the task with the competition of young researchers participating the Biological Olympic, what will contribute for deepening them of the ecological awareness and the ecological sensitivity.
