Abstract

The use of renewable energy sources brings environmental benefits. Biomass is one of the basic non-conventional energy sources in Poland. Among the cereal crops cultivated in Poland, oat grain may be the most useful for energy purposes, as it has less consumption and feed significance, and the cultivation technology is well known to producers. The use of oats for energy purposes is economically effective, especially if the grain is produced on one's own farm, using one's own machines and low-cost technologies. The use of oats brings environmental benefits, as it allows for the reduction of the consumption of fossil raw materials and reduces the emission of harmful gases and dust into the atmosphere. Therefore, research was undertaken to determine the calorific value of grain and the ash content after its combustion. The results of the conducted research allow us to state that naked forms of oats are more useful for biomass production compared to hulled forms. They have a higher calorific value and contain less ash.
