The significance of Roman law for the formation of the legal consciousness of a modern Ukrainian lawyer

The article reveals different directions of the influence of Roman law on the formation of the legal consciousness of a modern Ukrainian lawyer. Since the establishment of Soviet Power in Ukraine, the role of this discipline in the educational process has been narrowed. However, the practical role of Roman law, which consists in its forming influence on the legal consciousness, and the propaedeutic, axiological and methodological significance of Roman law, remains fundamental to every legal profession nowadays. The acquisition of Roman law, which is constantly in development, has always been used in the preparation of future lawyers in universities of the Western legal tradition countries. First of all, it is about the specificity of the sources of Roman law, namely the practice of praetors and interpretations of lawyers; openness of the legal system of ancient Rome to borrowing; the importance of the legal procedure; availability of typed claims formulas; idea-the principle of aequitas, which is the expression of a specific type of thinking based on the ratio.
