Abstract

The author of the research paper established that Roman Private Law had effect on all legal families and systems, in particular, the legal system of the Vatican City State. The process of Canon Law formation as the main source of a legal system of the Vatican City State was highlighted. Particularly, it was established that Roman Law had direct influence on development of the Canon Law, its structure and content, which is evidenced by its several codifications. Also, Roman Law development process, creation of new compilations, abridgments and codifications of law as well as their influence on formation and development of the Vatican state is considered in the paper. In particular, the Codex Theodosianus, the Corpus Juris Civilis, the Decretum Gratiani, etc. were worked out.
