Grzyby w ankiecie Józefa Rostafińskiego (1850-1928) ogłoszonej w 1883 r.

Abstrakt

In 1883, Józef Rostafinski (1850-1928), a botanist and professor at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków (then Austria-Hungary), produced a survey regarding the names and uses of plants in the former Polish territories, which was printed in around 60 newspapers. Two questions concerned also the names and uses of mushrooms. We analyzed the contents of thirty letters containing information on mushroom names and uses from the present territory of Poland, Belarus and Ukraine. Four responses contained very little information (on single taxa or general statements). Twenty-one responses contained the names of, mainly edible, taxa used in an area (sometimes toxic taxa were also listed). The number of edible taxa listed ranged from 5 to 27 taxa per letter (mean 14, median 13). Altogether 37 edible and 4 medicinal taxa were identified to genus or species level using ethnolinguistic data (several other taxa were not identified). Names of poisonous mushrooms usually have a general character apart from Amanita muscaria names.
