Adam Fischer (1889-1943) was a distinguished Polish scholar who spent most of his life in Lviv. He was an active organizer of cultural and scientific life as: the vice curator of the National Department of Ossoliński, the head of the department of Ethnology at the University of Lviv, secretary of the Ethnological Society and editor of the Lud journal. He was also the author of extensive monographs. Adam Fischer actively participated in international conferences and scientific enterprises. In 1929, he participated in the First Congress of Slavic philology in Prague. There, a Publishing Committee was established, whose intention was to edit and publish a Lexicon of Slavic beliefs and customs. The first part of the Lexicon was to be dedicated to beliefs and customs related to plants. It was planned as
a joint work of several scholars from different Slavic nations. Professor A. Fischer was appointed as editor for the Polish territory. Unfortunately, the outbreak of World War II as well as numerous duties prevented him from completing the work on the Lexicon. The legacy of Professor Fischer and the materials gathered for the Lexicon are available in the archival collections of the Polish Ethnological Society in Wroclaw, where they are waiting to be edited and published. The aim of this contribution is therefore to present the context of the enterprise and work on the Lexicon.
