Abstract

Taking or holding hostages is a very serious crime, it often has got the nature of a terrorist act. Terrorism is one of the biggest threats to the modern world. In order to fight it off, the international community has executed numerous agreements. The most important is the European Convention on the Suppression of Terrorism of 27 January 1977. However, it should be remembered that not every criminal offence that involves taking a hostage will have such a character. It depends on the purpose of its perpetrators, whether it is the only a robbery or its aim is to force certain decisions on the entities listed exhaustively in the article 252.
