Abstract

This publication was intended to show the impact of dependence on psychoactive substances or selected forms of activity on the subject's ability to recognize the actions taken by him or his freedom to manage them, which is directly reflected in his accountability. The article presents the mechanisms and the most common causes of addiction. Their coexistence and relationship with other psychiatric disorders have been marked. The publication considers the location of addictions as one of the premises that may exclude sanity under Article. 31 § 1 of the Act of June 6, 1997 - the Penal Code (Journal of Laws of 1997, No. 88, item 553, as amended). In addition, the article explains whether any state of intoxication with a psychoactive substance deprives the admission of the perpetrator of an offense.
