Protecting Society against Sexual Crimes. Selected Re-socialization and Legal Issues

Abstract

The following paper discusses selected methods of sexual crimes’ prevention, both in Poland and abroad. It presents several examples of methods determining the indicators to measure the level of recidivism risk in case of sexual crimes, such as a questionnaire or a plethysmograph test. The author quotes the results of the research conducted by recognized scientific experts, as well as mentions the first Polish resocialization program for sexual offenders run in the prison in Rzeszów. There is taken an attempt to answer the following question: does restricting the law contribute to the decrease of sexual crimes? The article examines the latest amendments in the Polish legislation, aiming at increasing the protection of the society and strengthening the position of victims. It also presents selected regulations on sexual crimes applicable in the Western countries and the United States.
