Abstract

The aim of the paper is to point out that the term ‘security’ has not been precisely defined yet, although it has been employed in many Polish legal regulations since 1989. The lack of a definition of security in the Polish law causes a conceptual chaos in the understanding of the issue. Hence, security can be defined in a number of ways depending on the field of knowledge it refers to, be it securitology, law, sociology, psychology, history, etc. Therefore, sociology with its conceptual apparatus can suggest a definition of security to be used in the forthcoming law on national security.
