Abstract

In Galicia, various social economic entities were created and developed in the second half of the 19th century. One such entity was the Mutual Insurance Association of Private Officials in Lviv, founded in the 1860s, which was established as an initiative of private officials and Galician landowners. Initially, its members were officials employed in agriculture and forestry as well as landowners. With time, the organization extended membership opportunities to various groups of private officials and practitioners of liberal professions. The main purpose of its activity was to help the members of the Association in economic and social aspects, as well as to provide retirement and disabi lity benefits for people unable to work due to illness or old age. Until the beginning of the 20th century, the organization operated on the basis of mutual assistance, followed by insurance principles. From 1909, the Association also served as a replacement pension insurance institution for white-collar workers. Income from contributions, bank deposits, securities and real estate was allocated to the organization's statutory purposes.
