Karol Mikuli’s artistic performance encompassed many musical fields. He was a composer, pianist, conductor and organizer of musical life of the second half of the 19th century in Lviv. At that time he played the main role, which shaped the separate epoch in the musical life of Lviv. As a Fryderyk Chopin’s student he raised generations of pianists, incorporating Chopin’s ideas, which were preserved until the end of his life.
Karol Mikuli’s works contain multinational influences. He wrote German and Romanian dances for the piano, songs with the texts of German poets, a mass for the consecration of the Orthodox cathedral in Chernivtsi (Msza na poświęcenie katedry w Czerniowcach) and, above all, Polish dances such as mazurkas and polonaises. The last compositions show the most meaningful influences of Fryderyk Chopin.
