Abstract

The work presents the rules of organization and the results of a contest concerning proecological and procultural activities within the development strategies of the rural areas of Wielkopolska. The purpose of the contest is searching for local initiatives, stimulating and promoting their activities which could be spread and used in various communities. The contest is aimed at cities, parishes, administrative districts with their subordinate institutions and economic units. It is to support initiatives and social activities as a factor assisting socio-economic and cultural assignments that are carried into effect mainly by self-governments. It was indicated that the contest presents the level of involvement of the society in solving local educational, organizational and investment problems as for as environment protection is concerned.

The contest concerning activities aimed at protecting national and cultural legacy of the rural areas of Wielkopolska proves to be more and more stimulating every year for news initiatives in the parishes and contributes to supporting the activities of the provincial self-governments for the purpose of an advanced development of the rural areas. The projects strictly linked with „little homelands” contribute to developing knowledge connected with natural and humanistic issues not only in the case of the school children but whole local communities as well. Free initiatives involving local inhabitants motivate them to common actions for the purpose of the rural areas development which, in turn, contributes to the growth of the province and the programm of the environmental protection.
