About the Journal
Warstwy (The Layers), the annual publication of the Institute of Fine Arts of the University of Rzeszów, is a journal of artistic and academic nature, a platform for exchanging thoughts and presenting artistic work. It is meant to give theoretical consideration to art and related fields as well as presenting the accomplishments of the Institute of the Fine Arts of the University of Rzeszów and the people and institutions connected with the Institute and the University.We invite to collaboration artistic and academic circles from Poland and abroad.
The theme of each issue is developed in extensive essays by the members of the team as well as invited art critics and art historians, philosophers, literary scholars and academics from other universities.
Apart from a few academic papers on the leading theme, each issue includes regular sections:
- Art contexts, i.e. shorter essays,fragments of doctoral and postdoctoral theses;
- Profiles, where we present more and less famous but always interesting artists;
- Conversations – interviews, and records of discussions;
- Illuminations is a place for poetry and free literary forms;
- Studios – presentations of art studios, statements by their owners and their programmes, the artwork of undergraduates, graduates and PhD students of the Institute of the Fine Arts and other art universities;
- The Jerzy Panek Prize presents both the principles and the winners of that prestigious distinction awarded for 10 years now to students of our university.
- The Prof. Włodzimierz Kotkowski Gallery of the Institute of Fine Arts) is a review of exhibitions of the artwork by Polish and foreign artists;
- Events and Exhibitions and Reviews present an interesting look at what is happening in art in a given year;
- Calendar information of artwork of the staff of the Institute of Fine Arts;
- the Labyrinths section: its essays analyze one painting each;
- The ETC. pages is a place for presenting a selected artist and their work.
