Abstract

This article provides a critical analysis of the situation faced by beneficiaries seeking pro bono legal assistance and requesting the appointment of counsel in civil proceedings. Simultaneously, it focuses on identifying areas in the pro bono legal aid system that require reform and improvement. The author highlights several systemic shortcomings that can ultimately result in a violation of the right to access justice for individuals experiencing extreme financial hardship and who are unable to independently cover the costs of legal representation during both pre-trial and court proceedings.
