Abstract

A Polish sports association is an organization which has an association status and the objectives of its activity are to organize and effectuate competition in a given sport discipline. The legislative basis for the activities of the Polish sports associations is constituted by the sports law and a statute which is subjected to the approval of the Minister of Sport and Tourism in the form of an administrative decision. A Polish sports association is endowed with the legal personality from the moment it is put into the National Court Register docket. As an autonomous organization, it is supervised by the Minister of Sport and Tourism. The only criterion for the supervision is legality and the catalogue of supervisory measures is closed. The most radical among them is a repeal of a decision of the association’s authorities. The Polish sports association has to respect the constitutional sources of law. If it disobeys these regulations, the registry court may suspend the association’s authorities. If the violation of the law or statute is persistent the court may disband it, which results in the loss of its legal personality.
