Abstract

This article attempts to discuss conceptual interpretation relating to new media in the pedagogical context, which relates to students, teachers and society of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) – groups that usually are the recipients of media broadcast. This paper presents characteristics of the term new media in relation to the terms mass media, informational-communicational technologies, information society and pedagogy. It then specifies the most important new media in this context, stipulating their characteristics and connections. One of the rudimentary issues that appear when analyzing the term new media is its correct interpretation. Broadly understood ICT media bring numerous uncertainties with it, there are many term connotations. Surely egalitarianism of creation, use and reception is essential. For the above reason, unprepared recipient receiving unselected information, and not knowing media terms connections, without the right awareness of specifics of new media as well as cognitive perspective, will not be able to fully take advantage of media package (especially in educational processes). The solution to this problem might be right conceptual interpretation and resulting from it distinction of new media in the pedagogical context. The right understanding of the term new media in relation to pedagogy may have significant impact on creating abilities of conscious, correct and selective use of mass media in the educational process.
