Abstract

The article is devoted to understanding the phenomenon of formation of the modern piano school and its basic artistic principles on the example of the piano school by Karol Mikuli. The role of creative personalities of a teacher and a student in such a school and, in particular, the role of students and followers of Karol Mikuli in the development of the most important features of his piano method are studied. Little-known biographical facts of prominent pianists,students and followers of Lviv professors: Olga von Janina, Ludwik Marek and Maria Wiktoria Jaszek-Sołtys were directly analyzed.

The article also presents the relationships betweenpiano performance and pedagogical principles defined by F. Chopin and F. Liszt. They are based on the facts from the biographies of students of both musicians. Creative piano methods by F. Chopin and F. Liszt are reconstructed on the basis of their students and followers’performance assessment. The cultural and historical contexts of the formation of the piano performance and pedagogical school by Karol von Mikuli are also covered.
