Musical Galiciana in the collection of Ewa and Jeremiusz Glensk

Abstract

The music collection of Ewa and Jeremiusz Glensk, started in 1986 in Poznań, focuses on 18th–19th-century printed scores and manuscripts, especially from the Classical and Romantic periods. It includes over 7,500 printed works and 260 manuscripts by both Polish and foreign composers, such as Chopin, the Wieniawski brothers, and Beethoven. The collection features a wide range of genres: solo, chamber, symphonic, vocal, and operatic music. A key part of the archive highlights composers from Galicia, particularly Antoni Kątski, represented by rare first editions and autographs. Notable items include the only known copy of his debut work from 1825, the popular Le Réveil du Lion, and the autograph of La Resignation (1843). Also important is a rare 16-bar fragment of Wieniawski’s lost Rondo alla Polacca. The archive also holds over 620 letters, offering insight into the lives and careers of figures like Chopin, Paderewski, Poniatowski, Lotto, Wieniawski, Lipiński and Noskowski. Overall, the Ewa and Jeremiusz Glensk collection preserves many unique, often unknown musical sources valuable for research and music history.
