Abstract

The research is devoted to the memoirs of the outstanding Ukrainian violinist, composer and teacher Roman Prydatkevych (1895–1980), which was published in the 1950s–1970s in the USA. It enriches the source-based research base of the musical culture of Galicia at the beginning of the 20th century and belongs to memoir fiction. Some of the most important problem areas for the author are noted, which reproduce the activities of the first decade of the Higher Music Institute named after M. Lysenko in Lviv, his teachers, the organization of the first art collectives in this educational institution; the participation of Galician musicians in the First World War of 1914, in the ranks of the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen, the Ukrainian Galician Army; families of priests of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church as centers of formation of the musical elite of the region; accompanist activities of pianists with whom R. Prydatkevych collaborated; the role of individual teachers in the development of the violin art of Galicia.
