The publication presents a brief history of artificial light, highlighting its salutary effect on the development of civilization, but also showing the effects of photo-pollution associated with wasting energy and the lack of dissemination of information on the ecological, social and economic consequences of light-duty management. Particular attention has been paid to the potential negative impact of artificial lighting on ecosystem services that rely on biodiversity on Earth, and this is often altered by artificial light.
