Abstract

The article presents alternative solutions for plastic packaging. Currently, in the world there is a very big problem with the growing amount of packaging and their harmful effects on the natural environment. A review of literature concerning the use of natural polymers for the production of surface edible coatings or food packaging is presented. The article characterizes the properties of films made of various proteins and polysaccharides. It seems that edible packaging based on natural polymers is such an innovative product that it may be an alternative to plastic packaging.
