Miyawaki forest as a way to retard changes caused by excessive urbanization

Abstract

Intensively expanding cities are places where we often encounter areas with heavily degraded soils. Establishing green areas in such places usually causes a lot of trouble. An alternative solution may be to give them over to the so-called fourth nature. An even more interesting idea, from an ecological point of view, may be a pocket forest, a planting proposed by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki. Although the initial stages of afforestation are quite expensive and laborious, we can quickly achieve an area with significant eco-functionality. The area of ​​a pocket forest can be just a few m² and can be perfectly integrated into the city landscape. It is an excellent example of the retardation of unfavorable changes caused by excessive urbanization.
