Intensively expanding cities are places where we often encounter areas with heavily degraded soils. Establishing green areas in such places usually causes a lot of trouble. An alternative solution may be to give them over to the so-called fourth nature. An even more interesting idea, from an ecological point of view, may be a pocket forest, a planting proposed by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki. Although the initial stages of afforestation are quite expensive and laborious, we can quickly achieve an area with significant eco-functionality. The area of a pocket forest can be just a few m2 and can be perfectly integrated into the city landscape. It is an excellent example of the retardation of unfavorable changes caused by excessive urbanization.
