Euro-orphanhood – the impact of labor migration on family life

Abstract

This work presents the topic of economic trips of parents from Podkarpacie and the impact on their families, especially children.  The phenomenon of Euro-orphanhood, which affects 12.5% of students from the study group, is the subject of special attention.  Most mothers, as many as 76.9%, work in the country, while trips abroad concern mainly fathers.  The term "Euro-orphans" has pejorative connotations, suggesting negative consequences of separation from parents working abroad.  Research shows that separation from parents often causes children to feel loneliness, stress, and problems with learning and social integration.  The article also raises the issue of institutional and social support available to Euro-orphans and their families.  The aim of the article is to raise awareness of Euro-orphanhood and to propose actions that can alleviate its negative effects.
