Interpersonal communication in an in-depth interview in an online space - new opportunities or limiting potential?

The main purpose of this article is to present and analyze the interactions taking place in two forms of individual interviews – stationary and online. Referring to the literature on the subject, the author presents both the voices of approval and criticism from various academic backgrounds. Also, she makes a preliminary analysis of the differences in the ways of interpersonal communication that occur in the types of individual interviews discussed. On the basis of her own experience, as well as the experience of young male and female social scientists interviewed in-depth, the author attempts to answer the question posed in the title of the article: do online interviews represent new opportunities or limit research potential? The analysis aims to understand to what extent online interviews can be effective in the context of social research, what benefits they can bring, and what potential difficulties and limitations they may involve.
