From April 1, 2024, in accordance with the regulation of the Minister of National Education, homework in grades IV–VIII is optional and not graded. So the question arises: Do we still need homework? More and more researchers and teachers pay attention to the fact that students do not put much effort into doing their homework, but there is no doubt that completing it skillfully and regularly checking it in grades IV–VIII brings many learning skills. It influences students’ self-development, contributes to improving the effectiveness of learning, and teaches them to critically evaluate their own work and responsibility. There are advantages and disadvantages to assigning homework, but will removing it actually mean that students will have more time to prepare for tests, quizzes, or reading? Aren’t these tasks interdependent? The aim of the article is to analyze changes in homework assignments, to draw attention to their educational aspects, and to deepen reflection on the above topic from the perspective of students and teachers.
