Abstract

The article presents the main principles of Maria Montessori’s pedagogy and examples of its application in children’s education and therapy. The method is based on individualization of learning, child independence, and experiential learning in a properly prepared environment. The article discusses the main assumptions of the method, research findings confirming its effectiveness, and presents examples of Montessori institutions in Poland. The analysis confirms that this method is an effective alternative to the traditional educational model (provided its assumptions are carefully considered and recommendations for the organization of the educational environment, including appropriate teaching aids, are followed) and can be an inspiration for contemporary education.
