Abstract

School, following a family, is a significant environment for the development of a youth and shaping their personality. It is in a family where a young person should acquire knowledge and improve skills, gain attitudes and the system of values. It is also a place where they should learn collaboration and cooperation with others, develop their passions and interests, as well as creativity and the ability to think and act independently. Nevertheless, for several years it has been pinpointed what school does not fulfil its functions and tasks. Attention is drawn to the fact that school curriculum is overloaded, that the preferred school function is the transmission of knowledge and academic skills, or that there are too many traditional methods of teaching. As a consequence, school does not meet the expectations of students, teachers, and parents who more and more often express their dissatisfaction with the quality of their children’s school education. These issues are the subject matter of the present study in which the parents’ views on school, their objections towards it and the main reasons for school weakness, according to the parents, will be discussed.
