Abstract

In Poland and in other countries a word „management” is diversely understood. It is used in differ-ent semantic context. It is overused. Management must be perceived as one kind of a widely understood “directing” concept, next to administration, leadership, governance and “microdirecting”. Management is connected with team activity of people. It is a process that takes place in or-ganization (institution), which has a common uniting aim and necessary material and immaterial resources. Its managing body (governing body) has influence on running and development of organization because it fulfills managerial functions. A marketing science constitutes a part of a management science, being its subdiscipline. Marketing functions are analogous to functions in the whole management. Marketing is a man-agement regarding specified, narrow range of reality: a sphere of actions of organization in refer-ence to market. As sciences they were constituted at the beginning of the 20th century. Nowadays, public management is distinctly separated from business management and public marketing is separated from business marketing. Concepts and methods elaborated in management may be, to a big extend, transposed to marketing and conversely. In Poland in a marketing science an issue of protection of consumers and other recipients of goods and services is poorly developed. Management and marketing alike as economic phenomena has, however not always appreciated, strong connections with morality, and as a scientific disciplines – with ethics. Management and marketing, as every science, basing on conducted research formulates rules and laws in their area. However, it is difficult because of ambiguity and emotional aspect of the object under research as well as because of complexity typical for human beings. Claims in management and marketing sciences are characterized by: 1) a low level of accuracy, 2) low time permanence, 3) limitation in space.
